In Telangana, the Speaker has issued notices to five MLAs following Supreme Court directives to take action within three months against legislators involved in party defections. The move is part of an ongoing process to investigate claims of disqualification under the anti-defection law.
The Speaker, Gaddam Prasad , has initiated proceedings and summoned these five MLAs for hearings. After their statements are recorded, notices may be issued to additional MLAs if required. The controversy surrounds ten MLAs who were originally elected on BRS tickets but later joined the INC.
BRS demands that these legislators be declared disqualified for defection, arguing that their shift violates legal and ethical norms. However, several MLAs have defended themselves, stating that they have not formally switched parties in a manner that warrants disqualification. The Speaker’s hearings are expected to clarify the situation and determine any necessary actions according to the law.
