Bihar has seen the lowest number of women candidates in Bihar elections in 15 years. Despite tall promises, both NDA and MGB parties failed to give enough tickets to women. Their manifestos talked about empowering women, but real action is missing.
The NDA promised “Mission Crorepati” for women, while Tejashwi Yadav of RJD announced ₹2,500 monthly support. Still, the women candidates in Bihar elections are very few—only 258 women compared to 2,357 men. BJP and JD(U) gave 13 tickets each, Congress gave 5, RJD gave 23, Jan Suraj gave 25, and BSP gave 26.
Parties argue that women have fewer chances of winning. In the last election, 370 women contested, but only 26 won—a 7% success rate compared to 10% for men. Bihar elections will be held on November 6 and 11, and results will be out on November 14.
This situation shows that women’s political participation still needs strong action, not just promises.
