A high-tension moment unfolded during a District Grievance Redressal Committee meeting in Kaithal, Haryana, as state minister Anil Vij publicly confronted a police official for allegedly disregarding his directive to register a Zero FIR in a fraud case. The meeting, held on Friday, turned heated for several minutes as Vij sharply questioned the official’s inaction.
Zero FIR, which allows any police station to file a complaint irrespective of jurisdiction, was at the centre of the dispute. Kaithal Superintendent of Police Upasna attempted to mediate and present the police version, but Vij remained firm, repeatedly asking why his instructions had not been followed.
A video from the meeting shows Vij telling the SP that the police were “not doing their job properly.” He stressed that his orders must be implemented, stating, “These are my orders; how can my orders be defied?”
When the police official claimed the complainant wanted his case pursued in Chandigarh, Vij demanded written proof and spoke directly to the complainant over phone. After learning that the complainant wanted Kaithal police to register the case and alleged deliberate police inaction, Vij ordered immediate FIR registration, warning the officer of suspension.
The exchange intensified when the officer told the minister, “Sir, you are not doing justice,” claiming the issue was harming his career. Vij responded firmly, asserting that justice was being upheld and rebuking the officer for failing to act.
During the meeting, Vij also directed FIR registration against police personnel in another harassment case and ordered fact-finding committees in four matters. Afterward, he personally heard grievances and instructed officials to take necessary action.
