Pakistan and China Seek Concrete Action Against Terror Groups Operating from Afghanistan
Pakistan and China on Monday jointly called for “visible and verifiable” steps against terror groups operating from Afghan soil, underscoring shared security concerns in the region. The call came during high-level talks in Islamabad, where both sides stressed the need for Afghanistan’s interim authorities to prevent their territory from being used for cross-border militancy.
China praised Pakistan for what it described as “comprehensive counterterrorism measures,” particularly efforts to protect Chinese citizens and projects linked to the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Beijing reiterated that attacks targeting Chinese nationals and infrastructure undermine regional stability and economic development.
Pakistan, for its part, highlighted the growing threat posed by militant groups allegedly based in Afghanistan and emphasized the importance of sustained international engagement with Kabul to address security challenges. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to closer security cooperation and intelligence sharing, while also supporting dialogue and economic development as long-term solutions to extremism.
The discussions reflected the deepening strategic partnership between Pakistan and China amid evolving regional security dynamics.
